Veteran artist Manoj Kumar, who made a different place in the hearts of the audience through patriotic films, died at the age of 87. He breathed his last at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai on Friday morning. Manoj Kumar gave Bollywood a lot of successful films including benevolence, east-west, revolution, roti-cloth and house. Because of these films, he was also known by the audience as ‘Bharat Kumar’. Bollywood celebs like fans and Akshay Kumar have reacted on social media on losing the legendary superstar of Hindi cinema.

Akshay Kumar wrote on X, I grew up learn from him that there is no feeling more than love and pride for our country and if we do not come forward to show this feeling, then who will do it? Such a good person and one of the biggest assets of our community. RIP Manoj Sir. Om peace.

According to the medical report, the actor, known as ‘Bharat Kumar’, breathed his last at 3:30 am. The reason for his death was said to be a heart attack. The report also confirmed that Manoj Kumar was struggling with decomposed liver cirrhosis for the past few months. He was admitted to the hospital on 21 February 2025 after his condition deteriorated.

Manoj Kumar’s contribution to Indian cinema will always be remembered. He was awarded several prestigious awards. His name includes a National Film Award and seven Filmfare Awards in different categories. In honor of his immense contribution to Indian art, the government honored him with Padma Shri in 1992. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2015.

On the demise of Manoj Kumar, filmmaker Ashok Pandit said, ‘… Honored with the great Dadasaheb Phalke Award, our inspiration and’ Sher ‘of Indian film industry Manoj Kumar ji is no longer among us. The film is a huge loss to the industry and the entire industry will remember him.

Lyricist Manoj Muntashir has paid homage to the great actor and filmmaker Manoj Kumar’s death. Muntashir expressed condolences on Instagram. He wrote, he was proud of this and will remain that my name gets from you. The first lesson of patriotism was taught by your films. He further said, Bharat Kumar taught me to love India. If you had not been there, it would not have been a spark that would write ‘your soil’ with my simple pen. Goodbye my hero!

Manoj Kumar was born on 24 July 1937 in Pakistan. His real name was Harikrishna Giri Goswami. Manoj Kumar was born in Abbottabad (now Pakistan). His family came to Delhi during the partition of the country. He was crazy about cinema since childhood. He loved watching movies. He named his character Manoj Kumar in Dilip Kumar’s film Shabnam.
