Late on Wednesday, the Central Government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, successfully passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and Muslims (Minorities) Waqf (Relations) Bill, 2024 in the Lok Sabha (Lok Sabha).
Today it will be introduced to be passed in Rajya Sabha. In the 543 -member Lok Sabha, 288 votes were cast in favor of the bill. Due to this, minorities will be secured on 6 fronts. At the same time, 233 votes were cast against this. After this, the House approved both the bills. As far as the Rajya Sabha is concerned, there are a total of 236 members here. Most of the votes cast to pass the bill will be required. These days BJP is the largest party here.
He has a total of 98 MPs. As far as NDA is concerned, he has 125 MPs. Apart from the BJP, 4 JDU, 3 MPs from Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and 2 TDP MPs are included. In view of the number game, the NDA should not have any difficulty in passing this much amended amendment bill in this House. This is also because the NDA has shown solidarity in the Lok Sabha.
What is the number game in Rajya Sabha?
Talking about the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, the House has a rich strength of 236 members here. The number of BJP in this is 98. In terms of alliance, the number of NDA members is close to 115. Also add six nominated members who usually vote in favor of the government, then the NDA is reaching 121 in Numberge, which is required to pass the bill, two more than 119 required to pass the bill.
27 members of Congress and 58 members of other constituents of India block are in Rajya Sabha. Overall, the opposition has 85 MPs. Nine of YSR Congress, seven of BJD and four AIADMK members are in Rajya Sabha. There are three members including small parties and independents who are neither in the ruling coalition nor in the opposition alliance.
Kiren Rijiju introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha on 8 August 2024, which was sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) after the opposition’s uproar. After the report of JPC led by Jagdambika Pal, the revised bill related to it was approved by the Cabinet.
The ruling party says that through the Waqf Amendment Bill, the right to settle disputes related to its properties will get the right to settle. Waqf’s property will be better use and this will also help women of Muslim society.
Please tell that earlier the Waqf Amendment Bill has been passed from the Lok Sabha. Voting was held in the Lok Sabha on the Waqf Amendment Bill, out of which 288 out of 464 votes and 232 were opposed. The Waqf amendment bill in the Lok Sabha was debated for more than 12 hours.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and opposition MPs presented their respective sides. Now this bill will be introduced in the Rajya Sabha and then sent to the President for approval. Paid by this, Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju responded to the discussion on the Waqf Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha, dismissing the claims of several opposition members to call this move as anti -Muslim, saying that this bill is being described as dividing Muslims, while the government is bringing all sections of the community together including Shia, Sunni.
He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is trying to save the Parsi, the smallest minority community in the country. Rijiju said, “The opposition can criticize the government, but to say that the minority in India is not safe, not right.” He said, “I am a minority myself and can say that more minorities are not safe than India.
Every minority community lives life in this country with pride. “He lashed out at the opposition members and said,” To defame the country in the House like this …. The generations to come will not forgive you. ” The Union Minister said that after the passage of the bill, crores of Muslims of the country will thank Prime Minister Modi.
Following Rijiju’s reply, the House dismissed the amendments of several opposition members and passed the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 by 288 votes against 232. The House also approved the Muslim Waqf (Decision) Bill, 2024 as well.
BJP’s ally in the National Democratic Alliance JDU, Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), Janasena and Janata Dal (Secular) supported the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. BJP’s ally AJSU also supported the bill in Jharkhand.
Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, DMK and other opposition parties strongly opposed the bill as unconstitutional and Muslim land grabbers. In such a situation, there are also questions whether the Modi government changed the mathematics of the politics of secularism in the country with one bill? With a bill, the Modi government showed that the politics of votes will not work by scaring Muslims?
Did one bill tell that change in the interest of Muslims does not mean opposition to securism? Did the government show that due to decrease in seats, the pace of taking aggressive decisions in Parliament has not decreased? Will the new secularism of politics be seen in the country with the seal on the Waqf Bill?
PM Modi has no match in taking a decision
The opposition must have felt that Nitish Kumar in Bihar and Chandrababu Naidu MPs in Bihar will hesitate to take a decision on the Waqf, but even with 240 seats, the BJP looked the same in Parliament as the BJP was with 303 seats. In 2019, when the Modi government came to power for the second time, within 6 months the government passed three divorces, independence from Article 370 and the CAA law.
The BJP then had a 303 -seat majority on its own. This time, when the government was formed in 2024, BJP’s own seats came only 240, but within a few months, by presenting the Waqf amendment bill, it finally approved it. The seal on the bill is evidence that the majority may not have on their own, but PM Modi has no match in taking decisions.
Will it be seen in electoral politics?
Will the effect of Waqf Bill be seen further in electoral politics? This question is because Bihar is the election, then the election of West Bengal is less than a year. The Home Minister understands this electoral politics very well, only when TMC questioned the bill in the House, protested, then Amit Shah’s answer came into the discussion.
Government rejected opposition allegations
The question is that where the leaders of the opposition kept saying that there would be opposition to the road. Has Muslims themselves not supported in this politics? Is this the reason that where the opposition kept saying that non-Muslims will become majority in the Waqf Board, the mosque-dargah will be captured.
The government will take away the property of Muslims, the tradition of the historic Waqf site will be affected, where the government constantly rejected all these claims and told the truth. Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu were not remembered by the opposition and Muslim organizations, but when the turn of support and protest came today, both JDU and TDP turned the dreams of the opponents.
Mathematics of the politics of Muslim vote changed?
Seeing the history of Nitish Kumar’s overturning history, the opposition must have felt that what is the good governance Babu doing iftar parties, so even the leader of Owaisi’s party was busy in awakening Nitish Kumar against the BJP in the name of Muslim vote, but everyone’s dream broke.
Nitish’s party told that the mathematics of the politics of Muslim vote has changed. Delhi, Bihar capital Patna and Vijayawada of Andhra Pradesh. From this, you should understand how many pressure from opposition parties to Muslim Personal Law Board to bring Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu against the bill, how much pressure was put, even in the performance of the Muslim Personal Law Board, the names of Nitish Naidu were put up by writing the names, so that they should oppose the bill, but the government did not set up such a mathematical bill, but the party did not set up the bill, but the party did not set up the bill for She was seen playing openly in the House.
