Just a few hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chhattisgarh, 50 Naxalites surrendered in Bijapur. Out of these, a total reward of Rs 68 lakh (68 lakhs) was declared on 14 Naxalites.
The Naxalites said that they are surrendering due to hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology, exploitation of tribals by senior activists and differences that are flourishing within the movement. On Sunday, 50 Naxalites surrendered in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. Out of these, 14 had a reward of a total of 68 lakh rupees.
The Naxalites put up arms in front of the state police and senior CRPF officials. The Naxalites said that they are surrendering due to hollow and inhuman Maoist ideology, senior communist party (Maoist) activists of the banned Indian Communist Party (Maoist) due to the exploitation of tribals and differences within the movement.
Jitendra Kumar Yadav, Senior Superintendent of Police of Bijapur said that Naxalites are also affected by security forces to set up camps and ‘Nia Nellanar’ (your good village) scheme. Under the ‘Nia Nellanar’ scheme, security forces and administration are providing basic facilities in remote areas.
Yadav said that out of 50 Naxalites who surrendered, there is a reward of Rs 8-8 lakh on six and Rs 5-5 lakh on three. Apart from this, there is a reward of one lakh rupees on five Naxalites. District Reserve Guard (DRG), Bastar Fighters, Special Task Force (STF), CRPF and Cobra (Commando Battalion for Rejolute Action) played an important role in the surrender of Naxalites.
The SP said that they will be rehabilitated as per the government’s policy for the Naxalites who join the mainstream and join the mainstream. This surrender was a few hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state. He will lay the foundation stone of many development projects worth more than Rs 33,700 crore.
Earlier, security forces on Saturday killed 18 Naxalites including 11 women in double encounters in Sukma and Bijapur districts of Bastar region of Chhattisgarh. This is a major success in the mission to end Naxalism before 31 March 2026.
With these latest successes, 134 Naxalites have been killed in different encounters in the state so far this year. Of these, 118 were killed in Bastar division. According to the police, a total of 792 Naxalites surrendered in the Bastar region of seven districts in 2024.
