The burden of debt on the Madhya Pradesh government is constantly increasing. On Tuesday, this burden increased to Rs 10,000 crore than the state’s annual budget. The government took another loan of Rs 4,400 crore on Tuesday. After this, the total debt on the state has been more than Rs 4.3 lakh crore. This figure is more than the state’s budget of Rs 4.2 lakh crore, which was introduced two weeks ago.
Accused of extravagance
The government says that she takes a loan for development works. The opposition alleges that the government is spending extravagance. This includes buying new cars for ministers and renewing bungalows. The state government needs more than Rs 1,550 crore for the Ladli Bahna scheme every month.
Now the government can take a loan of only 2500 crores
Earlier this month, the government took a loan of Rs 10,000 crore on different dates. The government could take a loan of up to Rs 64,000 crore in this financial year. He has taken a loan of Rs 61,400 crore. Now there is scope to take a loan of only Rs 2,500 crore. But officials say it will not be needed. It will be extended for the next financial year.
‘Let’s take loans for development’
On March 31, 2024, Madhya Pradesh had a loan of more than Rs 3.75 lakh crore. The government says that it takes a loan regularly. These money is used to complete development plans and projects. The state government says that loans taken from the central government and other sources have been used for the development of the state such as dams for irrigation, better transport services, loan to farmers and local bodies and for power generation.
More than 5% debt of the country’s total debt on MP
Madhya Pradesh has more than 5% debt of the country’s total debt. The country has a total loan of Rs 93,93,317.5 crore, out of which Madhya Pradesh has a loan of Rs 4,80,976 crore. Madhya Pradesh is ranked ninth in terms of debt.
Expenses even after increasing debt
Despite increasing debt, the government has bought a state aircraft. Bought new cars for ministers and renewed the bungalows of ministers.
On July 10, the Madhya Pradesh government passed a proposal to buy a jet aircraft worth more than Rs 230 crore.
Last year, the ministers were not spent less than Rs 18 crore on renewal of bungalows.
In May 2024, the government ordered to buy SUV of about Rs 5 crore for ministers.
The government’s major financial responsibilities require more than Rs 1,550 crore every month for the Ladli Bahna scheme.
