The budget session of Delhi Assembly started from Monday. In this budget session, the BJP government headed by Chief Minister (CM) Rekha Gupta will present its first time. In the budget session, the CAG report on DTC (DTC) was presented in the House.
This is the third CAG report after the liquor scam as well as the Mohalla clinic. This report of CAG was placed on the floor of the House on the functioning of Delhi Transport Corporation on behalf of CM Rekha Gupta.
There will be a ruckus in the discussion on the report
There is a ruckus after CM Rekha Gupta presented a report on the functioning of DTC. Earlier, the BJP has been continuously surrounded the Aam Aadmi Party on the issue of corruption. Now BJP leaders in the House will target the Aam Aadmi Party on the issue of corruption. The BJP has already raised questions on the AAP government regarding the scam in the purchase of electric buses of DTC.
What is in CAG report on DTC?
The report on DTC was reported about a month ago on the CAG. The report said that the financial problems of the Delhi Transport Corporation were reported to increase. According to the report, the total deficit of DTC in 2015-16 has increased from Rs 25,300 crore to Rs 60,750 crore in 2021-22.
According to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), by March 2022, the corporation operated 3,937 buses, which was much lower than the required 5,500. BJP MLAs have said that they will surround ‘AAP’ on the issue of corruption and seek ‘AAP’ on the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) on the functioning of DTC during 10 years of rule in the city.
Rekha Gupta, who is handling the Finance Department with the Chief Minister, will present the first budget of her government for the financial year 2025-26 in the Delhi Assembly on Tuesday 25 March. In this, the outline of the government’s financial priorities and development agenda for the year will be described. On March 27, he will be passed in the assembly with a discussion on the proposed budget.
Let me tell you that the BJP has returned to power in Delhi after 1998 after defeating ‘AAP’ in the assembly elections last month. AAP has said in a statement that it will surround the BJP in the assembly to ‘betray’ and ‘open attack’ on democracy by not fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘guarantees’ and ‘open attack’ on democracy.
Leader of the Opposition Atishi said that the BJP has betrayed the women of Delhi by refusing to provide financial assistance despite the previous ‘AAP’ government in heritage. We will expose this betrayal on the assembly as well as the streets and in every house.
Before the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP promised that it would give Rs 2,500 to women of poor families under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The Delhi government has sanctioned Rs 5,100 crore for this scheme, but the registration of the beneficiaries has not started yet. Atishi accused the BJP of ‘dictatorship’ in the Delhi Legislative Assembly and suspending opposition MLAs for raising public issues.
DTC fare not increased since 2009
DTC has failed to expand its fleet despite the available funds. In 2007, the Delhi High Court ordered that the corporation should have 11,000 buses, but in 2012, the Delhi Cabinet set a revised target of 5,500. Out of the total DTC buses, 1,770 oversees were, in which low-floor buses had served more than 10 years. They have to be closed in a phased manner soon. Not increasing the fare since 2009 has been a major reason for its financial struggle. Despite requesting several times, the Delhi government did not approve the fare hike.
