The central government has notified the 24 percent increase in the salary of MPs. This increase will be effective from 1 April 2023 and has been fixed on the basis of the price hike index. According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, not only the salary of MPs has been increased, but the daily allowances received on participation in meetings, pension of former MPs, and additional service for years have also been increased.
New salary and allowances are as follows:
Monthly salary of MPs
First: Rs 1,00,000 per month
Now: Rs 1,24,000 per month
Daily allowance (attending meetings during Parliament session)
First: Rs 2,000 per day
Now: Rs 2,500 per day
Monthly pension of former MPs
First: Rs 25,000 per month
Now: Rs 31,000 per month
Additional pension (for every year of more than five years of service)
First: Rs 2,000 per month
Now: Rs 2,500 per month
The government has notified this increase in the Income Tax Act, 1961 under the MP Salary, Allowance and Pension Act on the basis of the price increase index.
