Officials said that this year, taking major action against Naxalites in the state, security forces killed 26 Naxalites including 14 women in Bijapur district, while four others, including a woman, were killed in Kanker district. Inspector General of Police of Bastar region Sundararaj P said that 18 of the 26 Naxalites killed in Bijapur have been identified and others are being identified.

The police officer said that along with the success in the Bijapur encounter, security forces have caused great damage to the West Bastar Division of Maoists. He said that in the last one year, many Maoists of the division have been abolished by security forces. Security forces will continue their campaign until peace is restored in the area. He said that the Bijapur campaign has recovered an AK-47 rifle, a SLR (self-loading rifle), an INSAS rifle, three .303 rifles and many other barrel grenade launchers (BGL), 12 bore rifles and 315 bore rifles, gadgets and weapons from the encounter site.

37 new camps in 14 months

The police officer said that in the last 14 months, 37 new camps of security forces have been set up in Bastar region, most of which have been established in Bijapur district to meet the lack of security and to facilitate development works. He said that a road connectivity between Tarram and Pamde has been established in Bijapur, which was previously considered a stronghold of Maoists. The official said that there will be a big change in this area due to the establishment of road connectivity.
