The Election Commission has taken a big decision regarding Linked to link the Voter ID (Voter ID) (Voter ID) (EPIC) card to Aadhaar. It was discussed in the high level meeting chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Commission made it clear that this process would be completely under the decision of the Constitution and the Supreme Court.
Procedure will be done under legal structure
The Election Commission clarified that the process of connecting the voter ID to Aadhaar will be under Article 326 of the Constitution and Section 23 (4), 23 (5) and 23 (6) of the Representation of the Public Institution. The Commission, citing the decision of the Supreme Court, said that the Aadhaar card is just a proof of identity, not citizenship. Therefore, the process of linking to Aadhaar will ensure that only Indian citizens are recorded in the voter list.
The Commission said, “According to the Constitution, only Indian citizens can get the right to vote. The Aadhaar proves only the identity of the person, not his citizenship. Therefore, this process will be kept under the legal purview and will be taken forward as per the Supreme Court’s civil decision.”
