Varun Chakraborty (33), who has created his own identity as a mystery spinner, has seen many ups and downs in his career. But he did not give up and spread his glow. In the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy, the highest wicket for India has been 9 wickets.

30 to 40 trials but did not succeed
Chakraborty, who started cricket at the age of 13, dreamed of becoming a fast bowler, not a spinner. But he did not get a chance to bowl and due to the lack of wicketkeeper batsman in the team, he went on to do it. By the age of 16, he gave 30 to 40 trials. But did not succeed in selection. Disappointed, he decided to leave cricket and gave the kit to his friends and went out to become architecture. He completed his architecture studies and also worked in the same field for a few years.

Jubilee Cricket ODI to IPL and then from the national team
In 2017, Varun took 31 wickets in 7 matches in Tamil Nadu’s Jubilee Cricket ODI tournament, due to which he got a chance in the Tamil Nadu Premier League. At the age of 28, Varun’s entry into the IPL, when Punjab bought for Rs 8.4 crore in 2019. He then joined Kolkata Knight Rider and got the title of Mystery Spinner.

After this he got a chance to play for India. He entered T20 cricket against Sri Lanka on 25 July 2021 at R. Premadasa Stadium. Meanwhile, he also received threats due to not being able to perform well in the T20 World Cup held in UAE in 2021, which made Varun a victim of depression. But he did not give up hard work and also doubled the practice.

Last year, Kolkata took the trophy with 21 wickets in the IPL. Kolkata has retained him for Rs 12 crore for this season. He has been the second successful bowler of the tournament and India’s most successful bowler with 9 wickets in three matches in the Champions Trophy. This year, he was also made man of the series with 14 wickets in 5 matches of the T20 series between India and England. During this, he also set the record for the most wickets for India in a bilateral T20 series.
