Obesity (obesity) is increasing rapidly among women from southern states of India. For this, the Council of Social Development of Hyderabad has also done a study. Researchers say that most women in Tamil Nadu are obese. At the same time, the least women in Telangana come under the purview of obesity.
Study on women from 120 districts compared the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 4 and 5 data for this research. These figures were from 2019 to 2021. The study assessed the information of women aged 15 to 49 years. For this, 31 districts of Telangana, 30 in Karnataka, 13 in Andhra Pradesh, 14 in Kerala and 32 districts of Tamil Nadu were included.
Women of Chandigarh are the most obese victims in North India. 41% in Chandigarh, 31% in Punjab and 21% in Haryana have obesity problems due to poor lifestyle. Researchers found that obesity in Tamil Nadu women had increased by 9.5%. Also in Karnataka and Kerala this figure is 6.9% and 5.7%. In Telangana, women struggling with obesity increase at 2%.
Women are more thicker than men. It was also found in the study that about a quarter of women (24%) are obese at the national level. In men, this figure is slightly lower (22.9%). Research also compared women living in urban and rural areas. The results say that women living in cities are more fat.
According to more study in Muslim women, 31.2% of Christian women at the national level suffer from obesity. However, talking about the southern states, there is more obesity among Muslim women here. According to researchers, this situation is worrying because obesity is much higher in the southern states than the national average.
In research, obesity was also analyzed in women on the basis of caste. At the national level, obesity is 29.6% in Obudes, 24.6% in Other Backward Class, 21.6% in Scheduled Cast and 12.6% in Scheduled Tribe. Obesity in women at the national level has increased by 3.3%.
