India’s largest airline IndiGo has achieved another major achievement. IndiGo has become the second fastest growing airline in the world in terms of seat capacity. Its seat capacity in 2024 has increased by 10.1% to more than 134.9 million.
Indigo got second place in OAG report
According to the latest report of Aviation Data Company official airline guide (OAG), Qatar Airways ranks first in this list. The seat capacity of Qatar Airways has increased by 10.4% while IndiGo has increased by 10.1%, giving IndiGo second.
Indigo leads in flight frequency
According to OAG data, IndiGo has become the fastest growing airline in the world in terms of flight frequency (number of flights).
IndiGo operated a total of 749,156 flights in 2024.
Its flight frequency has increased by 9.7% year after year.
More than 900 new aircraft orders
IndiGo has one of the world’s largest aircraft orders.
The airline has ordered over 900 new aircraft.
In 2024, IndiGo is scheduled to get 58 new airbus aircraft which will further increase its capacity.
However, about 80 aircraft are currently in operation due to technical reasons (MRO supply chain problems).
Focus on domestic and international expansion
88% of flights are for the domestic market i.e. most flights are operating inside India.
A plan for international expansion is also ready.
In 2024, IndiGo will especially expand its services in the Middle East and Thailand.
Long distance flights to Indigo will also be launched
Indigo also plans to launch a long-hall (long distance) flights.
The airline can start long distance flights with a aircraft in 2025 with weight lease (hired) aircraft.
At the same time, it can be said that this rapid growing growth of IndiGo shows that the Indian Aviation Sector is holding its strong hold at the global level. Indigo can reach more heights in the coming times to deliver the number of new aircraft, delivery, international expansion and number of flights.
