These 5 municipalities of MP will become Municipal Corporation, Bhind will have to wait for 2 years

In Madhya Pradesh, 5 municipalities will soon be upgraded as a municipal corporation. Its process has intensified. Local collectors have also sent a proposal to the government to make Vidisha, Guna, Shivpuri, Chhatarpur and Seoni Municipality a municipal corporation. On the basis of their proposal, the Urban Development and Housing Department has started action towards making the five municipalities a municipal corporation. It is the effort of the Mohan government that before the urban body elections to be held in the year 2027, they should come into existence. So that the voters here can choose the mayor in the upcoming civic elections.

Announcement has been made before the assembly elections

Please tell that there has been a demand to make Vidisha, Guna, Shivpuri, Chhatarpur and Seoni municipalities a municipal corporation for a long time. Before the assembly elections, it has already been announced to make these municipalities a municipal corporation. Now the government has made preparations to make the five municipalities a municipal corporation to fulfill these announcements. Officials said that Sanjay Shukla, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development and Housing Department, had a meeting in Bhopal with other officials including the CMO of the concerned municipalities, District Panchayat CEOs of the districts related to the municipalities. In the meeting, an action plan has been discussed regarding making the municipality a municipal corporation.

Bhind’s notification has also been released

Please tell that the notification to declare Bhind as a municipal corporation has been issued on October 2, 2023, but it will have to wait for 2 years to come into existence. According to the Municipality Act, the Gram Panchayat cannot be included in the urban area until their term is complete. There are currently 16 municipal corporations in the state. After Bhind and 5 new municipal corporations are formed, their number will increase to 22.

In this way the municipality gets municipal status

To make the municipality a municipal corporation, collector prepares a proposal and sends it to the government. After getting its approval, the process of granting municipal status starts. First, the municipal area is expanded to meet the criteria of a population of 3 lakhs. After this, a resolution is passed in the respective gram panchayats that they are ready to join the Municipal Corporation. After this, the district administration calls claims and objections. A new proposal is made by the Collector and sent to the Urban Development and Housing Department. After the approval of the urban administration, this proposal is sent for the approval of the cabinet and from there it is sent for the permission of the Governor. After the permission of the Governor, the notification to declare the concerned municipality as the municipal corporation is issued.
