In the Civil Supplies Corporation of Chhattisgarh’s Civil Supplies Corporation scam, former Advocate General of the state Satish Chandra Verma has been granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court. A bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta gave relief to Satish Chandra Verma and also directed him to cooperate in the investigation. Earlier, the Chhattisgarh High Court refused to grant anticipatory bail to Verma. Senior advocate Vivek Tankha and Sumir Sodhi appeared in the Supreme Court on behalf of Satish Chandra Verma. At the same time, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani was on the side of the state government.
What is the matter
The Chhattisgarh government opposed Satish Chandra Verma’s anticipatory bail and said that there is a lot of evidence against Satish Chandra Verma. The Civil Supplies Corporation (NAN) scam is related to the supply of poor quality rice, grains, salt etc. in Chhattisgarh. There are many bureaucrats and other big names in this scam and many have also been arrested. Former Chhattisgarh Advocate General Satish Chandra Verma is alleged to have allegedly assisted to bail the scam accused Anil Tuteja and Alok Shukla. When an FIR was filed against Verma, he challenged it in the High Court and demanded anticipatory bail. However, the High Court refused to give relief to Verma and said that he needs to be interrogated in custody. Verma appealed to the Supreme Court against the High Court order from where he has got relief.
Hearing in Supreme Court after March 19 on farmers’ protests
The Supreme Court has deferred hearing on the case of protests by farmers. A bench of Justices Suryakant and Justice Kotishwar Singh said that two rounds of talks have been held between the farmers and the central government and the third round is to be held on March 19. In such a situation, the Supreme Court postponed the hearing on the case after March 19. Farmers are protesting against several other demands, including demand for minimum support price on crops.
CBI should file a petition in Delhi High Court in coal block allocation scam case: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court on Friday directed the CBI to file a petition in the Delhi High Court in the coal block allocation scam case. The court said that a petition should be filed in the Delhi High Court against the accusation of a company and three others in the case. A bench of Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar heard the CBI plea. The CBI had filed a petition against a special Delhi order of August 9, 2024. Apart from Manoj Jaiswal, Sanjeev Jha and Sanjeev Munjal, the special court also freed the allegations of M / s corporate steel alloys. The Chief Justice said that the order to free the charge is of the final nature and the Delhi High Court should consider it. Senior Advocate and Special CBI prosecutor RS Cheema agreed to the Chief Justice, saying that the investigating agency is ready to go to the High Court after withdrawing the appeal.
The ban on acquitting Jammu and Kashmir politician
The Supreme Court lifted the ban on the acquittal of Jammu and Kashmir politician Sudarshan Singh Wazir in the murder of National Conference leader Trilochan Singh Wazir. A bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan said that it is a very tough step to ban someone from free. This causes the freedom of the accused. The bench said that the orders of 21 October 2023, 4 November 2024 are canceled. They are kept separate. The High Court will decide on revision application, but the Supreme Court’s comment will not be made the basis in the judgment
