Waterfly technologies at Aero India in Bengaluru displayed their design, whose prototype is expected to arrive soon. These crafts offer a durable option for traditional air travel and boats.
In fact, the startup waterfly technologies supported by IIT Madras’s Incubation Cell have made this shocking claim. Murid of this claim of the company has also become famous businessman and Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra. Anand Mahindra even said that IIT is seen competing with Silicon Valley in terms of promoting Madras Startup…!
Recently, in Aero India 2025 in Bengaluru, Waterfly Technologies showcased the design of a new transport mode in India. It is named Wig Craft. Which is being claimed that this wig craft will run 4 meters above the sea surface and this will allow the journey from Kolkata to Chennai for just Rs 600.
Anand Mahindra has praised the design of this electric seglider. He responded to a post on the social media platform X (first Twitter), saying, “IIT is competing with Silicon Valley in the matter of promoting Madras Startup…! The news of a new ‘Techventure’ comes for almost every week. What I liked in this is not just promising to exploit our grand waterways, but it is also a fact that the design of this craft is very good! ”
What is Wig Croft
According to a report by Moneycontrol, waterfly technologies are developing electric C Glider. Which is also known as Wing-in-Ground Craft. This wig craft is being seen as a better alternative for airplane and ship. This wig craft will reportly be launched from the surface of the water. Which will run about 4 meters above the surface and will use the ground effect to increase the efficiency. Its speed can be up to 500 km/h.
In a statement to Moneycontrol, Harish Rajesh, CEO and co-founder of waterfly, said, “It will cost only Rs 600 per seat for a trip of 1,600 km through WIG Craft from Kolkata to Chennai. Which is much cheaper than the AC three-tier train ticket, which costs more than Rs 1,500. ”
He also said that this croft will be able to fly with water and will maintain a stable height of four meters. Which will not require any kind of airport infrastructure. Apart from this, this croft will be able to fly in water, ice, desert or any other area as well. Waterfly is allegedly planning to sell these segliders to airlines. It is also reported that Waterfly is also mapping international routes like Dubai-from Loss Angels and Chennai-Singapore by 2029.
