It is being played in Pakistan and Dubai. A match of this tournament was played between Bangladesh and New Zealand in Rawalpindi on Monday 24 February. In this Group A match, when the New Zealand team was chasing the target, a big security breech was seen when a supporter from a Pakistan party reached the New Zealand players with a photo. The Pakistan Cricket Board i.e. PCB had made all arrangements to avoid such an act of fans, but still a person broke into the field by breaking the security cordon.
According to the media, a man took a picture of Tehreek-e-Labback (TLP) leader Saad Rizvi, a man came close to New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra and hugged, which angered the Kiwi player. The incident occurred during New Zealand’s run-day, when Rachin and Tom Latham were present in the middle for tourists. Due to Ravindra’s brilliant century, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by five wickets to enter the semi -finals. This result also ensured India’s entry into the top 4 and thus excluded Pakistan and Bangladesh from the ICC tournament.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Intelligence Bureau has issued a high alert about the alleged conspiracy to abduct foreign guests participating in the Champions Trophy. Alert has been issued against several terrorist organizations including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS. Pakistan is hosting the ICC tournament for the first time in 29 years and BCCI refused to send the Indian cricket team across the border for the tournament, citing not getting permission from the Government of India due to security reasons.
