Its intensity was measured at 6.1 on the Richter scale felt in Indonesia on Wednesday morning. The earthquake came to the sea near the North Sulawesi province and had a depth of about 10 kilometers. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake occurred at 6:55 am (local time). The relief is that the Indonesian Meteorological Agency has ruled out the possibility of a tsunami and has not reported any major loss or injuries so far.

Indonesia is located in a place where tectonic plates of the earth are found. It is called ‘Ring of Fire’, which often causes earthquakes and volcanic explosions here. For this reason, this area is believed to be very sensitive to seismic terms. Over the years, there have been many dangerous earthquakes in this country. In January 2021, more than 100 people died and thousands became homeless due to an earthquake of 6.2 magnitude. In 2018, 7.5 magnitude earthquake and tsunami killed more than 2,200 people. At the same time, more than 1,70,000 people were killed in the 9.1 magnitude earthquake and tsunami in 2004.

Indonesian government and relief agencies are always cautious and are ready to deal with any disaster.

No threat of tsunami

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), no information has been revealed about the damage caused by this earthquake. At the same time, according to the information given by USGS, there is no danger of a tsunami coming from the earthquake. Which is a big relief for Indonesia.
Earthquakes often occur in Indonesia

This is not the first time an earthquake has occurred in Indonesia. Indonesia is a huge archipelago, located on the “Fire Ring” of the Pacific Ocean. The region is famous for highly seismic activities, as tectonic plates here collide regularly, causing earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
