Bangladesh’s team has been eliminated from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Bangladesh first suffered defeat to India and now New Zealand and thus the team fell out of the top 4 race. Team captain Najmul Hussain Shanto explained the reason for the defeat and he expressed anger over his team’s batsmen as well as fielders. Najmul Hussain Shanto has said that we are not scoring 300 runs in ODI cricket.
Bangladesh’s team could score 236 runs against New Zealand. New Zealand easily achieved the target of 237 runs. Bangladesh’s batsmen also had a poor performance on the flat pitch in Rawalpindi due to poor shot selection, playing too much dot ball, lack of plan against spinners and wrong time. Captain Shanto definitely scored 77 runs in 110 balls, while Zakir Ali again scored 45 runs.
At the post match press conference, Najmul Hussain Shanto said, “It is really disappointing as a captain. I think we need to improve a lot in terms of batting and fielding. I have said many times that as a batting unit we need to improve a lot, but we made the same mistakes again and again. We have to focus on improving our batting. I hope that after this tournament, we will make some changes as a batting unit and think of different ways and try to improve our batting. ”
When asked what kind of changes he was talking about, Shanto insisted that there should be no change in the players, but there should be a change in their thinking and working process. He said, “I did not mean that the players would change.” I think we need to make changes in our thought process. We need to take more responsibility while batting, so that we can contribute more to the team. ”
Captain Shanto further said, “Actually we have to do this. If we make a lot of changes, it will be difficult for the batsmen as well. So we have to give opportunities to the resources we have. ” He also admitted that he is not a team that could score more than 300 runs every day. Since the 2023 ODI World Cup played in India, Bangladesh has played a total of 23 matches, including the match played on 24 February and has scored more than 300 only once.
Regarding the Bangladesh team, which is struggling to score 300 runs in ODIs, the captain said, “We are not able to score 300 runs regularly. This is the truth and we have to accept it. We have to make a habit of scoring 300 runs regularly; Sometimes not. So we have to practice regularly and play matches on good wickets, play against big teams and score runs. ”
