WhatsApp banned the account of Indians on a large scale

Whatsapp has banned more than 84 lakh accounts. The move is taken by WhatsApp’s parent company Meta, which has been taken in response to the growing concerns of the platform’s misuse and fraud activity. According to the company, this decision is going to help users to stop fraud. Users are constantly being targeted by scammers and it is going to help them a lot.

Big disclosure in META report
META’s transparency report states that WhatsApp banned 8.45 million (over 84 lakh) accounts in India. This action was taken to follow the provisions of Section 4 (1) (D) and Section 3A (7) of the Information Technology Act. The report stated that the ban was implemented between August 1 and August 31.

What accounts did whatsapp ban?
1.66 million accounts were immediately blocked due to serious violations.
After examining the rest of the accounts, he was banned for being involved in suspicious activities.
More than 1.6 million accounts were banned proactively during the monitoring of WhatsApp, which did not require user complaints, as they were found to be involved in the misuse of the platform earlier.

Complaints of 10,707 users were received, out of which 93% of the complaints were immediately taken action.
