A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the stampede incident at the railway station in New Delhi. The petition has demanded the formation of an expert committee to prevent such accidents. 18 people died in New Delhi railway station. The petition also sought to implement mob management for prevention of such accidents.
Significantly, on Saturday night, 18 people lost their lives in a stampede at New Delhi railway station. The accident occurred due to a huge crowd of passengers traveling for the Hakumbha Mela. Now after this incident, there has been a demand from the Supreme Court to set up an expert committee to curb such accidents.
Changes in platform
In a petition filed by advocate Vishal Tiwari, the Supreme Court told the Supreme Court that the incident occurred in the last -minute changes in the departure platform of the train going to Prayagraj, causing the crowd to become uncontrolled and a stampede. The advocate also told that even before this, such incidents have happened at railway stations.
According to the information, the petitioner has demanded the implementation of the 2014 report of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) “programs and the locations of the collective assembly”. Apart from this, safety measures at railway stations should be improved, such as: widening corridors, construction of large overbridges and platforms, facilities of ramps and escalators, avoiding changing platforms at the last minute, not giving more ticket distribution than station capacity.
Explain that after the incident, the Railways had announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 2.5 lakh to the injured. At the same time, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has ordered a high level inquiry into the incident. He said that four special trains were run to control the crowd suddenly and now the situation is under control.
