Rohan Jaitley leads the post of Joint Secretary of BCCI, SGM on 1 March

New Delhi
Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley is leading the role of Joint Secretary in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). On March 1, elections are scheduled to be held at a special general meeting (SGM) at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Jaitley seems to be a leading candidate for the vacant post. The BCCI has formally informed all state associations about the upcoming election, with the only agenda of the appointment meeting of the new Joint Secretary. The post has been lying vacant since Jai Shah was promoted as Secretary as Secretary as ICC Chairman in December 2024.

The BCCI sent SGM notice to the state associations along with a single-heat agenda. The apex board said in a statement, “Information is given for the BCCI’s special general meeting, which will be held on March 1 at 12:00 pm at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, in which the election and appointment of Joint Secretary of BCCI Will be completed. “

It would be the second SGM in less than two months, before that SGM was done on January 12, in which Saikia was elected the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia was elected as the new treasurer. Both were elected unopposed. The main rivals of Jaitley for this post include former president of Bengal Cricket Association (CAB) Abhishek Dalmia and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officer Sanjay Naik. However, Jaitley is currently considered the strongest contender, as his administrative experience and his impact in the governing institution of Indian cricket is increasing.

Saikia, who was earlier in the role of Joint Secretary, became the secretary after Shah’s post was vacated last month. The election to be held on March 1 will be the second SGM to be held in less than two months, before January 12, SGM was held on 12 January, in which Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were elected unopposed secretaries and treasurer respectively.

Jaitley’s appointment will further strengthen his role in Indian cricket administration if the election wins. Joint Secretaries are responsible for working closely with other board members to maintain various administrative functions and ensure the smooth operation of the BCCI. Their possible election has been held at such an important time when the board chief is preparing for international tournaments and domestic cricket reforms.
