The plains of Jammu and Kashmir are raining intermittent rains while some high areas including tourist places like Gulmarg and Pahalgam received light snowfall.
Officials said that there was intermittent rainfall in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Some parts of Jammu also received light rain overnight. Meteorological Department Srinagar said that during this period, snowfall was received 5.1 cm in Ski Resort Gulmarg in Baramulla district of North Kashmir, 2.8 cm in Pahalgam and 2.5 cm in Kupwara. Some high areas of the Kashmir Valley, including the Pir Panjal mountain range in South Kashmir, also received light snowfall.
The Meteorological Department has predicted that light rains or snowfall at different places in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours will usually be cloudy with the possibility of thunderstorms.
The department said, “There is a possibility of light snowfall and rain at different places from the evening of February 3, while on February 4, there will be cloudy and there is a possibility of light to moderate rains or snowfall at many places in Jammu and Kashmir.” The department said that on February 5, there is also another round of light rain and snowfall at sporadic places in the morning or afternoon. After snowfall except Gulmarg, the night temperature was recorded above normal at most weather centers.
According to the department, the minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar at midnight on Saturday and Sunday has improved and it came to 2.5 degrees Celsius as against 0.8 degrees Celsius last night and during this period it was 3.1 degree Celsius above the average. The temperature in Gulmarg in Baramulla district of North Kashmir declined by a few degrees and the minimum temperature was minus at 7.6 degrees Celsius as compared to minus 7.4 degrees Celsius last year. It was currently 0.2 degrees Celsius than the average temperature of the valley of the plains.
The Meteorological Department said that Pahalgam’s tourist resort also saw a decline after snowfall and on Sunday the temperature was recorded at minus 2.6 degrees Celsius while the temperature here was minus 0.4 degrees Celsius while the temperature in Kokranag was below zero while last night it was minus. Was 0.8 ° C.
