Vandana Wadhwani and her husband Jawaharlal Wadhwani have set an example by donating their bodies in Indore, the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh. Vandana died on January 17, while her husband passed away nine months earlier in April 2024. Both of them donated their bodies to the medical college as per their wish. Vandana’s son lives in Canada and could not attend the funeral as he was injured in the accident. He paid his last respects through video call. The family is being praised a lot for this noble work.

Helped others even while alive

71-year-old Vandana Wadhwani of Indore died suddenly on January 17. His family honored his last wish and donated his body to MGM Medical College. Nine months ago, on 29 April 2024, her husband Jawaharlal Wadhwani also died and his body was also donated. This couple was always ahead in social work and was always ready to help others. Donating the body is a proof of his charitable nature.
Express your last wish like your husband

Vandana’s sister-in-law Dr. Mona Dev told that both Vandana and Jawaharlal were very religious and social workers. He was always ready to help others. Vandana also wished that like her husband, her body should also be donated to the medical college. Therefore, on January 18, his body was donated to MGM Medical College. His eyes were donated to MK International Eye Bank and skin to Choithram Skin Bank.
Son could not come to mother’s funeral

Vandana’s son Jayesh works in Canada. He was injured in a road accident a few days ago. Because of this he could not attend his mother’s funeral. He was given the last glimpse of his mother through video call. Jayesh and his sister Punita, who also lives in Indore, supported their mother’s decision to donate her body.
Last rites were performed with full rituals

The family followed all the religious rituals before donating the body. All the last rites were completed by the Pandit as per the rituals. All the rituals were performed just like Muktidham. Kandas were lit near the feet, parikrama was performed and prayers were offered for the peace of the departed soul. The lifting took place at Geeta Bhawan on Monday. There will be a twelfth ceremony next week.
Another elderly person from Indore donated his body

On the same day, 91-year-old Purushottam Bahrani of Indore also passed away. He was ill for some days. He had also already filled the body donation form. His wish was that his body should be useful for the study of medical students. On Sunday, his body was donated to Mansarovar Medical College, Bhopal. Purushottam’s wife died nine years ago. He has two daughters. He had retired from the post of Chief Engineer in the government department.
What happens after body donation?

Dr. Bharat Vajpayee, in-charge of the autopsy center of Indore District Hospital, said that the donated body is kept safe for years in the Anatomy Department of the Medical College. Most of the non-MLC bodies are donated. For body donation, the Anatomy Department of the concerned medical college can be directly contacted. Apart from this, many NGOs also help in this work. The entire process of body donation is completed through SDM and Tehsildar. Dr. Vajpayee said that ‘There is no greater donation than donating one’s body. This is an immortal and everlasting charity. The donor and his family deserve respect.
