The budget session of Parliament will start from January 31 and continue till April 4. The session will begin with President Draupadi Murmu addressing the joint meeting of both the Houses while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget on February 1. The budget session will be held in two phases. The first phase will run till 13th February after which there will be a gap from 14th February to 9th March. The second phase will start from March 10 and continue till April 4.
Joint Parliamentary Committee will present its report on Waqf (Amendment) Bill during the budget session.
During the session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address. Additionally, the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill will present its report. This committee had already extended its tenure during the winter session.
The report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the implementation of ‘One Nation, One Election’ will also be discussed in the session. This report was to be presented in the Lok Sabha in the last week of the session but there is a demand to extend the period of the committee. The committee held its first meeting this month. All eyes are on the budget session after the dispute between BJP and opposition members during the winter session and police complaints filed regarding protests in the Parliament complex.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said in a post on social media platform The Union Budget 2025-26 will be presented in the Lok Sabha on February 1, 2025. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may make some big announcements while presenting her eighth budget.
There will be a holiday on 13th February
He wrote, ‘President Draupadi Murmu will address the joint meeting of both the Houses in the Lok Sabha on 31 January 2025 at 11 am. The Union Budget for 2025-26 will be presented in the Lok Sabha on February 1, 2025. Both the Houses may adjourn for recess on February 13, 2025 and will reconvene on March 10, 2025, to examine and report on the Demands for Grants of various Ministries/Departments.’
There will be a total of 27 meetings
In the first part of the budget session, there will be nine meetings from January 31 to February 13, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the motion of thanks on the President’s address and Sitharaman will respond to the discussion on the budget. After this, Parliament will take recess to examine the budget proposals and will meet again from March 10 to discuss the demands for grants of various ministries and complete the budgetary process. The budget session will end on April 4. There will be 27 meetings in the entire budget session.
Common man expects big announcement
The common man is expected to get great relief from this budget of the Central Government. It is believed that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman may make changes in the tax slabs in the budget. Also, some exemptions can also be included under the new tax system. Apart from this, special announcements can also be made for health insurance, students, railways and other sectors.
