The Indian team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has been announced. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar announced the team in a press conference held in Mumbai on January 18 (Saturday). The command of the Indian team in the Champions Trophy will be in the hands of Rohit Sharma, who was present in the press conference. This time the Champions Trophy is to be played in Pakistan and Dubai under the ‘hybrid model’. The first match of the tournament will be held on February 19 between host Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi. Whereas the Indian team will play its first match against Bangladesh on 20 February.
15-member Indian squad for Champions Trophy: Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill (vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ravindra Jadeja, Akshar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Washington Sundar.
There will be a total of 15 matches between 8 teams in the Champions Trophy 2025. The teams have been divided into 2 groups. India and Pakistan are in the same Group-A. The remaining two teams along with them are New Zealand and Bangladesh. Whereas South Africa, Australia, Afghanistan and England have been kept in Group-B. All 8 teams will play 3-3 matches in their respective groups. After this, the top-2 teams of each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The first semi-final will be held in Dubai, while the second will be held in Lahore. After this the final match will be played. In such a situation, if a team reaches the finals, it will play a total of 5 matches in the tournament.
All these 15 matches of Champions Trophy will be played at 4 venues. There will be 3 venues in Pakistan. While one venue will be Dubai. The Indian team will play all its matches in Dubai only. If the Indian team qualifies, the final will also be held in Dubai. Otherwise the title match will be played in Lahore on 9 March. A reserve day has also been kept for the semi-final matches and the final. The first semi-final will be held in Dubai. While the second semi-final will be played in Lahore. 10 matches including one semi-final will be held at 3 venues in Pakistan. These three venues are Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
