External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will represent the Indian government at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump. President Trump will take over the reins of power of his country as the 47th President of America on January 20. During this visit for the swearing-in, the External Affairs Minister will discuss the issue of India-America strategic partnership and deepening of relations with the new representatives of the incoming Trump administration.

Apart from Trump, Jaishankar will meet many other politicians
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, apart from meetings with senior representatives of the new US administration, Jaishankar will also meet with some other foreign state leaders and diplomats during Trump’s oath-taking ceremony. The External Affairs Minister will visit Washington on the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee formed to assume power of the new President and Vice President of America.

Netanyahu is also reaching America
Heads of government of some countries, including Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Argentina’s President, as well as diplomatic representatives of many countries are also reaching America for Trump’s inauguration. This second term of Trump as President will be after an election break. In the presidential election held in 2020, current President Joe Biden defeated Trump and prevented him from coming to power for the second consecutive time. However, by defeating Democratic Party candidate Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections, he has not only changed the politics of America again but there is a stir around the world regarding his return.

How will India-US relations be under Trump rule?
Trump’s announcements of making sweeping changes in trade-related policies along with America First policy have raised doubts, apprehensions and concerns in the world’s diplomatic-commercial world. However, after Trump comes to power, there is neither any possibility nor indication of any major upheaval in India-US relations. There is no hindrance of party politics in America regarding relations with India. Both the Democratic Party and Trump’s Republican Party have been advocates of strong cooperation and partnership. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will apparently discuss with the representatives of the Trump administration to take forward this stability of relations and continuity of policies between the two countries.
