Union Public Service Commission conducts the Indian Forest Service Examination every year for the selection of forest officers. Advertisement for applications is usually published in employment news and major national newspapers in the month of February.
To apply for Indian Forest Service, a candidate must be a graduate in any one of the subjects Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Botany, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geology, Statistics, Agricultural Science. The age of the candidate applying for this entrance examination should be less than 30 years. Candidates eligible for the exam have to appear in the six paper examination of the Indian Forest Service. There are two papers of General English and General Knowledge. Both these question papers are of 300-300 marks. Apart from this, there are two question papers of 200 marks each on two optional subjects. Any two subjects can be chosen from Animal Husbandry, Botany, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Agriculture Science, Forestry and Engineering.
In this way the written examination is of total 1600 marks. The successful candidate has to go through an interview for which 300 marks have been kept. In this examination, conventional questions of analytical method are asked.
The English paper in the Indian Forest Service Examination is of three hours. In this one has to write an essay. There are also questions related to summarizing the paragraph, correcting the sentences and various uses of grammar. Questions are also asked from language knowledge and word knowledge. The purpose of this test is to test the ability to work in English. Therefore there should be a practical understanding of the language. In General Knowledge, questions related to contemporary events as well as day-to-day scientific experiences are mainly asked. Apart from this, there are also questions from Indian Politics, Constitution, Political System, Indian History and Geography.
