Fire has created havoc in Los Angeles County for the last few days, yet AQI is many times better than the ‘poisonous air’ of Delhi.

Washington
Fire has been creating havoc in America’s Los Angeles County for the last few days. Half of the city is in the grip of fire. More than 10 thousand houses have been burnt to ashes due to this fire. The devastating fire has destroyed more than 19,000 acres of areas in Pacific Palisades and Malibu, but the surprising thing is that despite this terrible fire, the air of Los Angeles is much cleaner than the capital Delhi.

The surprising thing is that even after such a terrible fire, the Air Quality Index (AQI) of 154 was recorded in the American city on Friday (January 10, 2025), which is many times better than the AQI of the capital Delhi. At present the AQI of the capital has been recorded at 372, which is counted in the very poor category. From this it can be estimated that on normal days the air quality index in American cities remains in a good range.

LA is cleaner than Delhi
After looking at the American AQI, the deteriorating air quality in the capital is disturbing. Such bad air in Delhi has become a daily struggle for the people. A user on social media site X compared the AQI of Los Angeles and Delhi and wrote that half of LA is burning, but the air is still cleaner than Delhi. However, an ex-user also wrote that people of Haryana and Punjab burn stubble and its smoke comes towards Delhi through the air. The air has wreaked havoc in Delhi, but it can no longer be denied that the air of Delhi is not safe for the people.

How is air quality measured?
Talking about Air Quality Index (AQI), AQI between zero to 50 is ‘good’, 51 to 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 to 200 ‘moderate’, 201 to 300 ‘poor’, 301 to 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 500 to 500 is considered ‘severe’.

No idea how much damage was done
Talking about the damage in Los Angeles, at least five churches, libraries, banks, shops and people’s businesses, everything has been burnt to ashes. The fire is showing no signs of stopping, so it is not clear how many structures have been burnt.
