Sam Altman, CEO of Open AI, the company that made ChatGPT, has been accused of physical abuse by his sister. Altman is accused of exploiting his sister Ann Altman for a decade. Ann has filed a lawsuit in the federal court regarding this. Sam Altman, his mother and his brother have responded to Ann’s allegations.
He has called the allegations false. In the lawsuit filed in court, Ann Altman alleges that the physical abuse began in her childhood in Missouri. It ran from 1990 to 2000. She claimed that she was sexually abused since she was three years old and this continued till she was a minor. By then Sam Altman had become an adult. Earlier, Ann Altman had also accused her brother on social media. Sam Altman posted on X in response to these allegations. He wrote that we are saddened by the allegations and they are completely false. The allegations made by my sister in the case. This is my, my mother and my brother’s answer to that.

Sam shared a statement on X. It read: “Our family loves Annie and is very concerned about her well-being. Caring for a family member experiencing mental health challenges is incredibly difficult. We know that many families who face similar struggles understand this well. He wrote that over the past several years we have tried in many ways to support Annie and help her find stability. Seek and follow advice from professionals on how to be supportive without encouraging harmful behaviors. Our efforts can be gauged from the fact that we provided him monthly financial assistance. Paid his bills directly. Paid his rent, helped him find jobs and employment opportunities. Tried to get him medical help. He has also been offered to buy a house through a trust. So that he has a secure place to live, but is not able to sell it immediately. Annie receives monthly financial support through our late father’s estate, which we expect to continue for the rest of her life. Despite this, Annie keeps demanding more money from us. Annie has made extremely hurtful and completely false claims about our family and especially Sam. We decided not to respond publicly out of respect for his and our privacy. However she has now taken legal action against Sam so we feel we have no choice but to act on this.
Over the past few years she has accused our family members of improperly withholding our father’s 401k funds, hacking her WiFi, and shadowbanning her from various websites including ChatGPT, Twitter, and others. The worst allegation she has made is that Sam sexually abused her as a child. He has also claimed cases of sexual abuse against others. Its claims have changed significantly over time. The lawsuit now includes allegations of incidents where Sam was over the age of 18.
