Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the contribution of women in the development of the country is important and said that democracy is our heritage. He said that our objective is to empower the women representatives of Scheduled Tribes. He was addressing the ‘Panchayat to Parliament 2.0’ program organized in the central hall of the Constitution House on Monday.

Lok Sabha Speaker Birla said that the freedom struggle was first started by Rani Jhansi in 1857. Women have made a huge contribution in the struggle for this freedom movement. He said that women have played an important role in all fields of social, political, science, technology and space.

He said that the strongest institution of democracy in our country is Panchayat. In this, work of social and economic development, making women self-reliant and promoting cottage industries is being done in the tribal areas under the leadership of women. He said that our democratic system from Panchayat to Parliament is special. India is the only country in the world where there is democracy in Panchayat and as the biggest institution in the country, there is democracy in Parliament also. That is why we say that democracy is our heritage. Democracy is our ancient civilization. Democracy is in our thoughts and actions. That is why India is called the mother of democracy. He said that the heritage and history of democracy is proof that women have made a major contribution in it.

In this program organized to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda, Om Birla, remembering Lord Birsa Munda, said that 150 years ago, Birsa Munda had fought for the independence of the country and the tribal area. He fought for the forests and land, and for the respect of the tribes. Birsa Munda’s life inspires us. He said that our objective is to empower the women representatives of Scheduled Tribes. On this occasion, Union Women and Child Development Minister Annapurna Devi and Chairperson of the National Commission for Women Vijaya Rahatkar, more than five hundred elected women representatives of Scheduled Tribes from 22 states and union territories were present.
