Seoul.

The political crisis in South Korea continues to deepen and arresting President Yun Suk Yeol, who is now facing impeachment, has become a difficult task for investigators. After protests against Yoon Suk Yeol’s arrest, investigators have asked for help from the police.

On Friday, when investigators arrived to arrest Yoon Suk Yeol, Yoon Suk Yeol’s security personnel confronted them. Earlier on Thursday, supporters of Yoon Suk Yeol did not allow investigators to enter the residence. According to a media report, South Korea’s Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) is investigating against Yoon Suk Yeol. The investigators have sent a letter to the police asking for help before the warrant expires. The police officer said that the corruption investigation office has requested our cooperation without any prior consultation. He has sent us a letter. We are doing a legal review of it. Apart from this, the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) said that due to the protests regarding the arrest of Yoon Suk Yeol, it is not possible to execute the warrant. We are planning further after the review. We regret the protest by the supporters, as it did not follow the legal process.

The President’s security personnel did not allow the arrest to take place
South Korean investigators arrived to arrest Yoon Suk Yeol at his residence on Friday, but local media reported that presidential security forces blocked investigators and Yoon was not arrested again. Yoon, whose removal has already been supported by MPs, will now step down from the post of President after the Supreme Court’s decision. A warrant for Yoon’s arrest has been issued, but despite two attempts, investigators have not been able to arrest Yoon. If he is arrested, Yoon will become the first South Korean president to be arrested. Yun had decided to impose martial law in the country on 3 December. However, after the uproar he had to withdraw the decision. For this, Yoon Suk Yeol may be sentenced to jail or even death penalty.

Even supporters are not allowing investigators to enter
On Thursday, Yoon’s supporters did not allow his arrest and clashed with the team of investigators. To prevent Yoon’s arrest, Yoon’s supporters have gathered outside his residence and prayers are going on. Meanwhile, investigators have warned that legal action will be taken against anyone who tries to stop Yun’s arrest.
