Human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has also knocked in India. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2 cases of HMPV have been reported in Karnataka. According to the Union Health Ministry, HMPV infection is already spreading in many countries including India and cases of related respiratory diseases have been reported in various countries. In view of this, the Maharashtra government is also fully alert. The Health Department has issued an advisory to the people regarding HMPV. It tells what people should do and what they should not do.

What to do and what not to do to avoid HMPV…
1. Use handkerchief and cloth while sneezing or coughing.
2. Start using alcohol based sanitizer.
3. People affected by cough and cold should stay away from public places.
4. You have to stop shaking hands with others these days.
5. Do not use the same tissue paper or handkerchief again and again.
6. Spitting in public places has to be stopped.
7. In case of any kind of infection, do not start the medicine on your own.

Regarding the cases in Karnataka, the Union Health Ministry said that a 3-month-old girl was suffering from bronchopneumonia. He was admitted to Baptist Hospital in Bengaluru, where he was found to be infected with HMPV. He has already been discharged from the hospital. An 8-month-old infant suffering from bronchopneumonia was admitted to Baptist Hospital on January 3, after which he was found to be infected with HMPV. It is said that the health of the child is now improving. It is important to note that both the patients have no international travel history. The ministry said it is monitoring the situation through all available surveillance means and ICMR will keep an eye on the trends of HMPV infection throughout the year.
