There is going to be a big change in the rules of hotel room booking through Oyo. The company has launched a new check-in policy for its partner hotels. According to the new policy, rooms will not be given to unmarried couples. At present this new rule has been implemented in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. But in the coming time it can be implemented in other cities also.
What is Oyo’s new check in policy?
In this new policy, unmarried couples will have to show valid proof. So that they can prove to be couples. This rule will also be applicable for online booking. Oyo has said in its statement that partner hotels have been given the right to cancel couples booking keeping in mind the social circumstances.
The rule was first implemented in Meerut
Oyo has instructed its partner hotels based in Meerut to implement this new policy with immediate effect. Based on the experiences of Meerut, the company can implement this rule in the upcoming cities also. According to a person with knowledge of the matter, “Many social organizations in Meerut had raised this issue with the company. Apart from this, petitions were filed in many other cities regarding not giving rooms to unmarried couples. For this reason the company had to take this decision.
What does Oyo official say?
Pawas Sharma, head of the company’s North India region, told PTI, “OYO is committed to working safely and responsibly. On one hand we respect individual freedom. So, while working within the ambit of law, we are also listening responsibly to the views of social organizations. We will keep reviewing the effect and rules of this policy from time to time. Oyo says that this program aims to change the old perceptions about the company and present the brand with a safe experience for families, students, business, religious and solo travelers. The company said that through this it also aims to encourage people to book more and more rooms.
