Jammu and Kashmir is currently facing severe cold and changes in the weather are being seen due to the influence of western disturbance. Rain has started in the high mountain areas of Kashmir and there is a possibility of light snowfall in the mountains and rain in the lower areas from Thursday. Although there was dry weather in Srinagar and Jammu, the sky remained cloudy.

The Meteorological Department has warned that the temperature in Kashmir remains below the freezing point, due to which the cold is likely to increase further. Light fog and cold is being felt in Jammu also. The maximum temperature is falling, due to which the effect of cold is increasing during the day. The maximum temperature of Jammu was recorded at 13.0 degrees Celsius, which is slightly lower than the previous day.

The department also informed that there will be an impact of two western disturbances in Kashmir in the coming days. The first disturbance has become active since Wednesday and will remain effective till the afternoon of January 2, while the second disturbance will have a more intense impact between January 3 and 6. Due to this disturbance, there may be normal to heavy snowfall in most parts of the valley, while its impact will be more on January 4 and 5.
