Himachal Pradesh is struggling with economic crisis. Now, to overcome this, the Congress government has appealed to the people of the state to give up the subsidy on electricity. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu has appealed to the resourceful people of the state to give up subsidy on electricity. Addressing the press conference, he said that there are many electricity consumers in the state who have 285 electricity meters installed in their names. At the same time, there were many people with 100 and 200 electricity meters. He also has five electricity meters in his name. In view of this, the government appeals to all resourceful people to give up subsidy on electricity.
The Chief Minister said that he himself has given up the free electricity subsidy by filling the proforma issued by the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board. All his cabinet ministers have also given up electricity subsidy. According to him, as per the decision of the previous government, the Chief Minister, Ministers, MLAs and government officials were also taking advantage of electricity subsidy, which was putting a financial burden on the State Electricity Board.
In Himachal Pradesh, currently 125 units of electricity subsidy is being given by the previous government, whereas Congress had promised to provide 300 units of free electricity during the elections. But till now the Congress government has not fulfilled the guarantee of providing 300 units of free electricity. Now Chief Minister Sukhu is appealing to give up the 125 units of free electricity already available.
If the Chief Minister is to be believed, the State Electricity Board will get a benefit of Rs 200 crore from this. The electricity board is already running in losses, so to recover from the losses the government has appealed to the common people to give up subsidy.
CM Sukhu told the media, “We are discussing a subsidy of Rs 2,200 crore for electricity, and we found that for the government employees and pensioners working in the electricity board, we will provide electricity to pay their salaries and pensions. Costing about 2.5 times the unit cost of Rs. These are our own people from Himachal, who have served in the Electricity Board and our government is committed to ensuring their social security.”
