New Delhi
The Indian Army has installed a statue of Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji on the banks of Pangong Lake, located at an altitude of 14,300 feet. This place is near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in the eastern Ladakh region. The Leh-based 14 Corps of the Army said the statue was inaugurated to commemorate the steadfast spirit of the Indian ruler, whose legacy remains a source of inspiration even today. The statue was unveiled on Thursday by Lieutenant General Hitesh Bhalla, General Officer Commanding, 14 Corps. It is famous by the name of “Fire and Fury Core”.
The inauguration of this statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji has come at a time when India and China have completed the process of withdrawal of troops from the two points of Demchok and Depsang. With this the nearly four-year long border standoff ended. Under an agreement on October 21, both sides completed the withdrawal of troops at these two tension points.
Let us tell you that this standoff on the eastern Ladakh border started on May 5, 2020 after a violent clash in the Pangong Lake area. A series of military and diplomatic talks led to the two sides completing the disengagement process on the north and south banks of Pangong Tso in 2021.
