New Delhi
This year the winter season is at its peak. On one hand, icy gusts and dense fog are forcing normal life to come to a standstill, while on the other hand, rain drops have made the weather refreshing in many parts. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has presented the extended weather forecast for the period from 28 December 2024 to 8 January 2025, which includes important information related to cold, rain and fog.
Severe cold wreaks havoc in North India
Winter continues to rage in the plains of North India. Severe cold wave warning has been given in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. The lowest temperature of this season was recorded in Churu, Rajasthan. Dense fog has affected normal life in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. The fog is likely to become denser between 28-31 December.
knock of western disturbance
There is a possibility of rain and snowfall on December 27-28 due to western disturbance in the Western Himalayas and surrounding areas. Due to this, there may be rain with hail and strong winds in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A drop in temperature will also be recorded during this period.
Possibility of cold winds and change in temperature
The minimum temperature in North and West India may drop by 2 degrees in the next two days. Temperatures are expected to be slightly above normal in parts of Central India and East India. Due to western disturbance, cold wave and snowfall will continue in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Heavy rain in South India
Heavy rains changed the weather in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha last week. This low pressure area caused thunderstorms in these areas. Light to moderate rain is likely to continue over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh in the next few days. This time the post-monsoon rainfall in South India has been 15% more than normal.
