There is a wave of mourning in Bollywood on the demise of great Indian cinema filmmaker Shyam Benegal. There is an atmosphere of mourning in the Bollywood film industry due to the demise of Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Shyam Benegal. Film stars are also expressing grief over his demise through social media.
Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur wrote on social media, “He created ‘new wave’ cinema. Shyam Benegal will always be remembered as the man who changed the direction of Indian cinema with films like Ankur, Manthan and countless others. He made great actors like Shabama Azmi and Smita Patil stars. Farewell my friend and guide.”
Akshay Kumar saddened by the news of Shyam Benegal’s demise. He wrote, “Deeply saddened to hear the demise of Shyam Benegal ji, one of the finest filmmakers of our country, truly a legend. Om Shanti.”
Filmmaker Hansal Mehta posted Shyam Benegal’s photo on Instagram and wrote, “The last of our great filmmakers, Shyam Babu, well done, thank you for inspiring many like me.” Thank you for cinema. Thank you for giving such amazing dignity to difficult stories and flawed characters.”
Karan Johar also paid tribute to Shyam Benegal and wrote, “Thank you for your cinema, the stories that gave opportunity to incomparable talent and crossed the boundaries drawn by society, your stories are the pride of the country.”
Manoj Bajpayee said, “This is a heartbreaking loss for Indian cinema. Shyam Benegal was not just a legend, he was a visionary who redefined the art of storytelling and inspired generations. Working with him in Zubaida was a transformative experience for me, introducing me to his unique style of storytelling and nuanced understanding of acting.
