Election symbols have been set for independent candidates contesting mayor, municipal president and ward elections in the state. These candidates will get symbols like glass, tube light, ring, apple, bucket and well.

At the same time, the Municipality President and Councilors will have to contest elections on symbols like sewing machine, balloon, biscuit, cauliflower and dish antenna. The date of urban body elections in the state has not been announced yet. There is intense discussion about possible postponement of elections in January.

But, preparations are being made by the state government and the Election Commission. Civic elections in the state are held on party basis. National parties and regional parties like Congress and BJP will get their prescribed election symbols, while independent candidates will be given different symbols from recognized parties. The election symbols have been updated on the instructions of the Central Election Commission. It is being told that this time BJP is preparing to bet on young leaders.

Symbols divided into two categories
The State Election Commission has divided the election symbols for mayor, municipality and councilors of Nagar Panchayats into two categories. 50 marks have been prescribed in the first category and 40 marks have been prescribed in the second category.

Now the people of the state will elect the mayor and municipality and panchayat presidents. After the decision of the Cabinet, it has also been approved in the Assembly. With the implementation of this bill, the provision for recalling mayors or chairpersons has now been removed. Under this, the mayor and chairpersons could be removed through a no-confidence motion after written notice from the councillors.

Name will be added to the electoral roll every quarter
The youth of the state will not have to wait for one year to get their names added in the electoral roll. Name of new voter will be added every quarter. Voters can get their names added to the electoral roll on completion of 18 years of age on 1st January, 1st April, 1st July and 1st October.
