lost his life in a terrible road accident
Yegapagol and others were on their way to their hometown Sangli in Maharashtra in their new Volvo XC90 SUV. The horrific accident took place near Tippagondanahalli on the Bengaluru-Tumakuru section of the highway at around 11 am.
Questions raised regarding road safety
Despite having such an expensive car, people have started raising questions on road safety standards. “Regarded as one of the safest cars in the world, the Volvo XC90 has recorded zero fatal accidents in the UK since its launch in 2002,” wrote The Skin Doctor, a user on social media. Imagine you invest in this car for its unmatched safety, but you face a tragic end as a car in the opposite lane suddenly slows down, causing a container truck behind it to lose control, hitting the divider. Crosses over, and crushes you, your spouse, three children, and a relative. It’s not Volvo’s fault, as any car would have crushed under such a heavy weight. Just an unfortunate twist of fate. Sad how death can find you in the most unexpected ways, even if you’ve done everything to stay safe.’
Users rained heavily
Reacting to the tragic death, another user said, ‘You may make safe cars, but India will make the most unsafe roads, distribute driving licenses for a few hundred rupees, and rule anarchy on the highways. Every hour 19 people die because of reckless driving, potholes and a system that is more corrupt than the promises of politicians. Indian roads are literally killing the future of India.
‘You can buy a safe car but not a safe road’
Another user wrote, ‘You buy a Volvo XC90 thinking it’s your golden ticket to immortality. Then luck laughs in your face and a rogue container truck plays the ultimate game of “Duck the Ball”. You can buy the safest car in the market but not road safety. You can buy the most expensive and best life jacket, but if the swimming pool itself is bad, how can you save yourself from death?’
X-Handle DriveSmart, which promotes safe driving, posted photos from the accident site. It read, ‘This photo is a reminder that an expensive, safe car alone does not provide safety on the road. Safe roads + safe drivers + safe cars, all three are essential for safety. All the passengers sitting in this Volvo, which passed all the safety standards tests, lost their lives.
