Severe cold continues to wreak havoc across the country. At some places the temperature has dropped to minus level and at some places people are shivering due to cold wave. Recently a landslide occurred in Dharchula in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand due to which the National Highway was blocked. The 40-day winter period Chillai Kalan has started in Jammu and Kashmir. This time the temperature in Srinagar has been recorded at -8.5 degrees Celsius, which has happened for the third time in the last 133 years. North India is in the grip of cold wave and dense fog while rain in South India has increased the problems.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released the upcoming weather forecast. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be a major change in the weather by December 28. Western disturbance will remain active due to which the weather patterns will change. There will be an impact of western disturbance between 27th to 31st December. Due to this, there may be snowfall in the hilly areas and rain with thunderstorms is expected in the plains, which may increase the cold.
Weather conditions across the country
According to the Meteorological Department, a low pressure area was active in West Central and South West Bay of Bengal, which is now likely to weaken and move further. Due to its impact, there may be heavy rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh and light to moderate rain in some areas. There is a possibility of light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh.
There will be changes after 26th December
The Meteorological Department said that from the night of 26 December, another western disturbance may affect North-West India. Due to this, there is a possibility of cyclonic circulation (cycle of cyclonic winds) in south-western Rajasthan. Due to this, moist winds will rise from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal by December 28, which may cause heavy rain and snowfall in the Western Himalayan region. Rain is also expected in the plains of northwest India and central India. There may be hailstorm along with thunderstorm in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

According to the Meteorological Department, cold wave and dense fog may occur in Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Rajasthan, Haryana, Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya.
Chance of rain in Delhi
At present the cold has increased with light fog in Delhi. Due to the cold wave for the last few days, Delhi was experiencing dry cold and the minimum temperature had fallen to 5 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the maximum temperature of Delhi was recorded at 23.4 degrees and the minimum temperature was 7.6 degrees. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in Delhi after December 26. The temperature in Delhi will be between 21 to 23°C while the minimum temperature can be between 7 to 9°C. Let us tell you that at present the weather across the country is very cold and the next few days may become even colder.
