The fourth match of India vs Australia 5-match Border Gavaskar Test Series is to be played from 26th December at Melbourne Cricket Ground. After the Gabba Test, this match is very important for both the teams. The series currently stands at 1-1. Everyone’s eyes will once again be on Jasprit Bumrah, who has performed brilliantly in the last three matches for India, while Bumrah’s eyes will be on R Ashwin’s ICC record. This is the record of achieving the highest rating in the ICC Test rankings.
At present, Jasprit Bumrah is at the first position with a rating of 890. Whereas R Ashwin has the record of getting the highest rating as an Indian in the ICC Test rankings. Ashwin has achieved the highest rating of 904 in 2016. There is a difference of only 14 ratings between Ashwin and Bumrah, if Bumrah repeats his previous performance in MCG then he can definitely break this record of Ashwin.
Jasprit Bumrah has the highest number of 21 wickets in the current BGT. He has taken these wickets at an average of only 10.90 and strike rate of 25.14. He has no match in this series.
If Bumrah is successful in taking 9 wickets in MCG, then he will become the first Indian fast bowler to take 30 wickets in a BGT series. The record of taking most wickets in a BGT series is in the name of Harbhajan Singh, he took 32 wickets in 2000-01. If Bumrah continues to perform like this, he can overtake Bhajji in the remaining two matches.
He needs nine wickets at the MCG to become the first Indian fast bowler to take 30 wickets in the S series of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Overall, Harbhajan Singh holds the record for most wickets in a single edition of the series with 32 wickets in the 2000–2001 series, and Bumrah has great chances of surpassing him in this list. Bumrah also needs five wickets in the fourth Test to become the first Indian bowler to take 20 wickets at the iconic MCG. The fast bowler has 15 wickets at the MCG and a wicket in the fourth Test will help him surpass Anil Kumble to become the highest wicket-taker Indian at the venue.
If we talk about the Indian bowlers who have taken the most wickets in MCG, Jasprit Bumrah is jointly at the first place in this list with 15 wickets. Apart from him, legend spinner Anil Kumble has also taken the same number of wickets on this ground. In the Boxing Day Test, Bumrah will surpass Kumble as soon as he takes one wicket.
