President Draupadi Murmu said that the increasing participation of women in the medical profession and their significant contribution shows that India is truly becoming a developed society. Addressing the first convocation of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Mangalagiri here, Murmu said that continuously promoting holistic health and ensuring health for all should be the guiding principle of every medical professional of the institute.

The President said, “The increasing participation of women in the medical profession and their significant contribution shows that we are truly becoming a developed society. This also highlights the fact that when given the opportunity, our daughters achieve excellence in every field.

He said that the government has launched many schemes including Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme and made treatment accessible to those facing difficulties in treatment. Murmu emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government as well as the conscious society to ensure that no person is deprived of medical services due to financial or other reasons.

The President said that Indian doctors are at the leading position among developed countries due to their talent and hard work. He said that people from other countries come to India to avail health services. He said that India is developing as an important center of affordable medical tourism on the world map. He said that the doctors of the country play an important role in this regard.

He called upon the young doctors to give priority to providing medical care and services to people living in rural, tribal and remote areas. He said that Yogasana and Pranayam have also been accepted from the modern perspective in the context of holistic health care.

On this occasion, Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazir, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge) Prataprao Jadhav, Andhra Pradesh Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav and other dignitaries were present. The foundation stone of AIIMS-Mangalagiri was laid in 2015 and the first batch of MBBS students was admitted on August 30, 2018, who passed out today.
