A letter has been written to MP Rahul Gandhi to return the letters of India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. This letter has been written on behalf of PMML i.e. Prime Minister’s Museum and Library. However, till now nothing has been officially said by Congress regarding this. It is reported that these letters were delivered to former Congress President Sonia Gandhi about 16 years ago.

On December 10, a letter has been sent to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on behalf of PMML member Rizwan Qadri. In this, an appeal has been made to them to return the original letters recalled by Sonia Gandhi or file their photocopies or digital copies. The special thing is that even in September, Sonia Gandhi was requested to return the letter.

In the year 1971, these letters were deposited in the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (now PMML). According to the report, these letters were allegedly sent back to Sonia Gandhi in 51 boxes in the year 2008. The special thing is that at that time there was UPA government led by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Pandit Nehru’s letters

These letters contain dialogues between many big names in history including Nehru. These include many people including Edwina Mountbatten, Albert Einstein, Jayaprakash Narayan, Padmaja Naidu, Vijayalakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asif, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Govind Vallabh Pant.

The letter sent by PMML said, ‘We understand that these letters may have personal significance for the Nehru family. However, PMML believes that creating easy access to historical material can be of great help to scholars and researchers.

What did Rizwan Qadri write in the letter?

Qadri further wrote in his letter, a collection of these documents was withdrawn from PMML in 2008 on the request of the then UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi. We understand that these documents would have personal significance for the ‘Nehru family’. But PMML believes that these are documents of historical importance and access to them is necessary.

Sonia Gandhi was also demanded to return the letter

Qadri told in the conversation that even in September 2024, I had written a letter to Sonia Gandhi requesting that the 51 boxes taken back from the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in 2008 should be returned or we should be allowed to see and scan them or A copy of them should be provided to us so that we can study them. There has been no response from their side on this till now. So I requested the leader of the opposition and his son Rahul Gandhi to help us in bringing him back. We hope that as the leader of the opposition he will look into this and make it available to researchers.”

In whose name did Nehru write the letter?

Let us tell you that Nehru wrote this letter during his reign. There were many important letters from people related to Indian history including Jayaprakash Narayan, Babu Jagjivan Ram, Edwina Mountbett, Padmaja Naidu, Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Aruna Asaf and Govind Ballabh. Rizwan Qadri told that these letters were given by Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial to Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (now PMML) in 1971. Let us tell you that on June 15, 2023, it was decided to change the name of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library to ‘Prime Minister Museum and Library Society’.
