Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said in Parliament today that since 2014, the income of farmers had increased almost five times till the year 2018-19 under the Central Government and it is likely to double even more when the new figures come. .
In response to a question related to the income of farmers in the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Shri Chouhan said that before the coming of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in 2014, the average income of farmers in the year 2013-14 used to be Rs 2115, which was Rs 2115 in the year 2018-14. It had increased to Rs 10218 in 2019. After that no calculation has been done till now. The income of farmers is to be calculated next year. He is confident that farmers’ income will be recorded at more than double this figure.
Shri Chouhan said that the government had resolved to double the income of farmers since 2014. For this, a six-point plan has been worked out which includes increasing agricultural production, reducing the cost of production, giving minimum support price of one and a half times the cost of agriculture, providing affordable financial assistance, agricultural diversification and promoting organic farming. He said that production of coarse grains has also been promoted.
When asked about the names of farmers not being included in many states under the Kisan Samman Nidhi, the Agriculture Minister said that since agriculture is also a state subject, the state governments have the power to implement all decisions related to it. Some names were also left out in many states. He said that during the Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra, names of about one crore farmers have been added under the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana.
He said, “I promise that the name of every eligible farmer will be added and the benefits of the scheme will be given.”
