Indian women’s cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has blamed the mentality of individual players for failing to win crucial matches in major tournaments, especially this year’s Asia Cup and T20 World Cup. “I think it is just a matter of mindset because if you see, we have very good players in our team,” Harmanpreet said ahead of the T20 series against West Indies starting on Sunday. Whenever they have got the opportunity, everyone has done very well.
I think in big matches it’s just a matter of mindset and whether you are thinking individually. Because as a player, as a team, you can only work on the fact that you have done well. At the end of the day, it is only you who is enduring the circumstances and it is only up to you how you look at going forward.” “We talk about what we need to win, but at the end of the day it’s an individual game and how you’re going to make the team win.”
This year India has won 13 out of 20 T20s, but they have lost all of these important matches. They were undefeated in the Asia Cup, but lost to Sri Lanka in the final. After this, they were eliminated in the group stage after losing an important match to Australia in the T20 World Cup. Smriti Mandhana scored the most runs in the final of Asia Cup but other batsmen failed. Harmanpreet’s solo performance against Australia also went in vain.
