Commissioner Health Tarun Rathi has issued detailed guidelines for the ill effects of cold wave and its prevention. The order includes detailed instructions on precautions and preparations in view of the serious impact of cold winds on health during the cold wave in the months of December and January. “National Guidelines for Preparation of Action Plan – Prevention and Management of Cold Wave and Frost” has been issued by the National Disaster Management Authority, so that all necessary steps can be taken for prevention and management of cold wave. Under these guidelines, all concerned departments and hospitals have been instructed to be alert and take effective action on time.
Commissioner Health has given instructions to ensure regular review of arrangements for prevention of cold wave in hospitals by the Chief Medical and Health Officer and Block Medical Officers at the district and block level. as well as frostbite and hypothermia It has been asked to make prompt identification of health problems arising from diabetes and make proper arrangements for first aid in all hospitals.
Protective measures and precautions
Citizens have been advised to be aware of weather forecasts through local communication channels. Follow weather forecasts. Avoid unnecessary travel during cold wave and stay indoors. Do not stay outside in the cold for long. Cover your head, neck, arms and legs by wearing several layers of woolen clothing. Eat fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin C and drink warm liquids to boost the body’s immunity. Take care of the health of the elderly people and children living in the neighborhood. Seek medical advice immediately if symptoms like runny nose, nasal congestion, flu and nose bleeding appear.
Do not use fireplace/coal in closed rooms
There is a risk of carbon monoxide poisoning by using fireplace or fire pot in closed rooms, which can increase the risk of life. Therefore, do not use Angeethi fire pot in closed rooms. The skin may turn white or discolored during frostbite. Symptoms like trembling, muscle stiffness, difficulty speaking, excessive sleep, difficulty breathing and fainting may appear. This is a medical emergency and a doctor should be contacted immediately. Immediately dress the person affected by hypothermia in warm clothes and keep him in a warm place. Cover the body with a blanket, towel or sheet. Increase body temperature by giving warm beverages. Seek medical help immediately if symptoms worsen. Do not consume alcohol, as it reduces body temperature and causes contraction of blood vessels. Avoid rubbing frostbite affected parts, this can cause further damage. Do not give fluids to an unconscious person.
