The Union Cabinet approved the draft of the bill related to ‘One Nation, One Election’. Now it will be presented in Parliament. Political rhetoric regarding this bill has intensified. Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Akhilesh Yadav described this bill as “BJP’s jugaad”. Opposition parties are opposing this bill. She is calling this bill a shame on the part of the government.

Amid the ongoing discussion in the Lok Sabha on the occasion of completion of 75 years of the Constitution, Akhilesh Yadav told IANS in the Parliament House complex, “The Constitution should be strong. If the Constitution is strong, our democracy will be strong.” Regarding ‘One Nation-One Election’, he said, “‘One Nation-One Election’ is the Jugaad scheme of the Bharatiya Janata Party.” SP’s Lok Sabha MP Virendra Singh also said about ‘One Nation-One Election’, “This is just a hoax. The government should first tell the opposition, what will happen to the rights given to the states under the country’s constitution? If the government tries to pass the bill in the House without clarifying its position on it, then it is not possible.”

Regarding the discussion on the Constitution, he said that the Constitution is the pride of the country. Everyone will celebrate Constitution Day with great enthusiasm. But at the same time we will also raise questions on the working style of the government. The values and principles on which the country’s Constitution was made were aimed at giving rights to the people standing at the last rung, what happened to those rights and how much justice has been achieved so far. The government should answer to what extent we have been able to follow the rights given in the Constitution.

Congress Lok Sabha MP Manish Tewari said regarding the discussion on the Constitution, “The whole world knows who has made the Constitution. “We don’t need a certificate from anyone.”
