A new ray of development has reached the ultra-Maoist affected and inaccessible area Purvi of Sukma district, the southernmost tip of Chhattisgarh. For the first time after 78 years of independence, the people of this village watched national and world news, serials and local movies on Doordarshan on TV. Children, women and elderly people of Niyad Nellanar village Poorvi all sat near the TV set for hours to watch Doordarshan programs. He watched various programs running on TV with enjoyment. This public welfare initiative of the Chhattisgarh government has proved that the pace of development is bringing positive changes in the Maoist affected areas. Such welfare schemes are writing a new chapter of development and peace in the remote forest areas and remote villages like Purvi, Silger, Tekalgudiyam.

Children watched informative programs and cartoons:

On this historic occasion, the village children not only felt happy after watching the informative programs and cartoons, but the eagerness to know and learn was also clearly visible on their faces. This positive initiative is a big step towards the development of villagers.

Initiative to extend benefits of public welfare schemes to villagers:

Niyad Nellanar Scheme is being run by the Government of Chhattisgarh with the aim of promoting development in Maoist affected areas and taking the benefits of public welfare schemes to remote villages. On the initiative of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, the main objective of this scheme is to provide 100 percent benefits of central and state government schemes to the villages.

Villagers got relief from solar energy:

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) department distributed solar energy powered equipment in Purvi village. Under this, solar lights and solar fans were distributed to eligible families. Along with this, two sets each were provided in Doordarshan’s sets Purvarti, Tekalgudiyam and Silger respectively. With this public welfare decision of the government, the problem of lack of electricity in the village has been solved and the villagers have got freedom from darkness. The villagers thanked Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and Chhattisgarh government for this.

The villagers said that watching television is like a miracle:

The villagers are very happy after getting the solar fan. Villagers said that installation of solar fans will provide great relief during the summer season. This step has brought new energy and hopes in our lives.

Banjam Madgu and Bandipara Poovarthi of Niyad Nellanar village said that we had never even dreamed that TV would come to our village. For the first time, seeing the news and serials of the country and the world in our village, our land, it seems as if we too are now connecting with the world. Now the nights will be filled with light with solar lights and fans and will also provide relief from the heat. This is like a miracle for us.

Village youth Nuppo Hadma and Tumalpara Purvarti said that now children will find it easier to study because with the help of solar light, they will be able to study easily even at night. Children will get new information from the informative programs coming on Doordarshan.

Winds of change in the direction of Doordarshan development:

Collector Devesh Kumar Dhruv said that providing solar powered equipment to remote and Maoist affected villages like Purvi is a welfare initiative towards development. It is fulfilling the needs of the villagers and also promoting environmental protection and use of sustainable energy. Our endeavor is to establish new dimensions of development in every village of the remote area, so that even the people at the last line can join the mainstream of the society.

Promotion of environmental protection and wave of happiness among villagers:

There is a majority of tribal people in Sukma district, who are always ready for forest conservation and protection of the environment. With the distribution of equipment based on solar energy, villagers are being freed from dependence on electricity. It is also promoting environmental protection. Use of renewable energy will reduce environmental pollution and will prove to be a milestone in the direction of rural development.
