Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai reached Jaistambh Chowk in the capital Raipur and paid tribute to the first freedom fighter of Chhattisgarh, Amar Shaheed Veernarayan Singh, on his martyrdom day. The Chief Minister paid tribute to Martyr Veer Narayan Singh by garlanding his statue.
Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao, Tribal Development Minister Ramvichar Netam, Forest Minister Kedar Kashyap, MLA Purandar Mishra and many public representatives were present on the occasion.
Recalling the contribution of Martyr Veer Narayan Singh towards the motherland, Chief Minister Sai said that the tribal people’s hero Veer Narayan Singh, who sacrificed his life for freedom, was the true son of Chhattisgarh Mahtari. He belonged to the zamindar family of Sonakhan but fought for the tribals, farmers and the poor. During the severe famine of 1856, he took out grains from the grain warehouse and distributed them among the poor to save them from hunger. He instilled patriotism among the people of Chhattisgarh during the first freedom struggle movement of 1857. Chief Minister Sai said that the struggle, dedication and sacrifice of Martyr Veer Narayan Singh towards the motherland will always be remembered. His glory as a protector of the poor and farmers will always remain immortal.
