In Korba, Chhattisgarh, a 35-year-old man beat his wife to death with a stick. After this his naked body was thrown into the dam. To prevent the body from coming up, stones were also tied. To mislead the police, he himself reached the police station to file a missing complaint.
The husband, who was under the influence of alcohol, beat his love-married wife severely with a stick due to doubts about her character. After the death of his wife, his body was tied with stones and thrown into the dam.
Police took out the body with the help of SDRF and arrested the accused husband. The matter is of village Dhaunrabhatha under Pali police station.
Family torn apart due to doubts about character
- Umashankar, 35, had a love marriage with Ishwari, 32, about 12 years ago. After marriage, Umashankar started living with his wife in a house built on the banks of river Langhi, about half a kilometer away from his house.
- Both of them also have an 11 year old son. At the time of marriage, Umashankar used to earn his living by driving heavy vehicles, but for the last few days he had become addicted to drinking alcohol. On the evening of 30 November, he beat his wife Ishwari with a stick.
- Hearing Ishwari’s voice, people nearby informed Umashankar’s mother about the incident. Mother reached home and pacified the matter by giving advice. Ishwari went missing on December 1, the second day after the incident.
- When the son inquired from his father about his mother, Umashankar told him to go somewhere. On receiving information about Ishwari’s disappearance, Pali police took the matter seriously and investigated.
- Umashankar was detained on the basis of suspicion. During interrogation, Umashankar initially kept evasive, then on December 2 he confessed to killing his wife and throwing her in the Nakti Dam.

On this, the police started the State Disaster Management Team (SDRF) to search for the dead body in the water. On Wednesday, SDRF team recovered Ishwari’s naked body tied to a stone from Nakti Dam. After legal action, the body was sent for post-mortem.
The accused has been arrested and further action is being taken. Umashankar had doubts about his wife’s character and this often led to disputes between the two. Even on the day of the incident, there was a dispute between the two on the same issue, then Umashankar beat him with a stick.
